Monsterwax Shock Stories, Sketch Cards, 3D Glasses & More.
Saturday, September 19th, 2009
I recently worked on producing a set for Monsterwax. The set is Shock Stories. I got the chance to design 3 different pairs of 3-D glasses, Colored 33 3-D cards and designed the ad for Non-Sports Update Magazine ( Volume 20 – no.5). You will also see my artwork on the base card that would have the Credit info. I believe some of the cards were misprinted on the back. Some have the Artist Credits on the back some have list of cards in the set. The card is also embossed and the original sketch was inserted into the set. Info on the set below.

Interview w/David Waldeck Editor–Entertainment/Licensing @ Topps, Ent. Inc.
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
The Elusive David Waldeck…
What is your favorite card set to work on?
So far it’s a tie between Star Wars 30th and Star Wars Galaxy 4. I just
started something that may replace both though. The Empire Strikes Back 30th
set, which is also ESB 3D.
(Holding Mic toward David) You mentioned the Empire Strikes Back set, Will
there be sketch cards in this set?
Ha. What do you think? I can’t get away from them with a chainsaw and a
motorcycle.
What is the normal turn around time for a set to come out, from concept to the product appearing in stores?
Between 6 and 8 months depending on the product. Something like the
Masterpieces sets take much, much longer than say, Transformers: Sticker Fun
Packs.
One of your next sets to come out is Star Wars The Clone Wars Widevision.
What are some of the inserts we can expect to see in retail and hobby boxes?
Sketch Cards, Autographs, Foil Character Cards, Cel Cards, Motion Cards and
Foil Stamped Parallels
Other then Hobby shops where can we expect to find packs of Star Wars The Clone Wars Widevision packs?
Target, Walmart, Toys R’ Us…Possibly Rite-Aid and Blockbuster
Any other sets coming up your excited to get started on?
The Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary 3D
Do you collect Topps cards and if so what are your favorite sets?
No…not really. I am a massive, massive Star Wars fan. I have a huge
collection of toys ranging from 1978-now. I was one of those guys who was
holding the Star Wars candle in the late 80’s and early 90’s, you know when
KB toys had POTF figures for under a buck. But, as far as the cards go, I
keep a set and a box or two from all the projects that I work on. I also
have Some GPK cards, some from the Goonies and some Pee Wee’s Playhouse
cards. I did buy all of the Star Wars Galaxy cards in the 90’s, those were
and still are quite remarkable. That’s it though.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I look forward to your upcoming sets. You can get more info about Topps and their products HERE

501st TK Helmet Project Interview w/ Chris Romines
Friday, September 11th, 2009
I recently interviewed Chris Romines who if you didn’t know is the brains behind the 501st TK Helmet Project. Read more about Chris and the 501st TK Helmet Project below.
What is the TK Project?
The TK Project is a charity event for the Make A Wish Foundation. The 501st Stormtooper Legion is inviting our Honorary Members, Friends Of the Legion and a few 501st troopers to create one of a kind Stormtrooper helmets. This project is similar to the Vader Project that Lucasfilm has done.
How long have you been a member of the 501st and what got you interested in
joining the group?
I have been a member of the Southern California Garrison since 2000 and I joined because it looked fun. I am a huge Star Wars geek and trooping seemed like the thing to do
As a member of the 501st You’ve started a great project called 501st TK Helmet Project in which you are having 50 or so artist from around the world paint or design on official EFX Stormtrooper helmets. All of which will be auctioned off at a later date with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation. What made you choose Stormtrooper helmets and the Make-A-Wish
Foundation?
I saw how popular the Lucasfilm Vader project was and since we are the 501st Stormtroop Legion, we needed to do the Iconic Stromtrooper helmet. As for Make A Wish, I have been lucky enough to have to healthy daughters. I don’t know what I would have done if my girls got a terminal illness. So helping the kids the weren’t so lucky is the right thing to do! If the money we raise helps one child, it is worth all the time and effort that has been put into this project.
Was there a lot that went into planning the project?
Actually, I didn’t think I would get Lucasfilm approval! But once we got that and the backing and support from Lucasfilm Licencee eFX Collectibles, then the planning really kicked in. Now I am waiting for the artist to complete their helmets so I can start promoting the auction. So I’m in a semi standby mode until I get more helmets. But once they start rolling in, I will have a ton of work to do!
Do you plan to display the Stormtrooper helmets at any conventions? And if so which one(s).
I took the West Coast Chopper helmet to Comic Con in San Diego this year, would have taken more, but that was the only helmet I had! I may take the WCC and Sanda helmet to the Long Beach Comic Con in October. But unless I go to the convention, I don think I will be taking them to many places. I really don’t want to damage the helmets before the auction.
Any plans to do something like the TK Helmet Project again?
If the opportunity to help sick kids arise again, I will be there!
I’d like to thank Chris for taking the time to answer these questions and having me on the project as an artist. I look forward to finishing my helmet and contributing to the great cause. I will be posting the steps/process of doing my Stormtrooper helmet when approved.
